Gisborne
Macedon Ranges

‘Modern Industrial Warehouse’ was the design brief behind this newly built home located in the heart of the Macedon Ranges township of Gisborne. The home tastefully balances the use of natural timber, concrete and metal finishes to bring modern and contemporary functionality and style.

The double-storey residence, with its elevated roof, was designed with an emphasis on incapsulate light-filled spaces and warmth from its northerly aspect. A natural timber-lined entry portico, carved out of the west-facing gable, identifies the formal entry of the home, which leads into the central living space and kitchen. The open-plan living space, with its high vaulted ceiling, northern-facing windows, and exposed metal beams, creates a bright and airy atmosphere in the heart of the home that seamlessly blends with the contemporary aesthetics of the building.

Natural light pours in from the large north-facing glass doors and windows that filter into the open-plan ground floor with its modern kitchen, dining and open-plan living space finished with polished concrete floors.  The ground floor also hosts a bathroom, laundry, separate bedroom, and an enclosed, double-large garage.  Internal use of Mountain Ash timber cladding provides a good connection with the external natural elements of the surroundings. The north-facing deck leading off the living area is clad in metal sheeting to provide industrial finishes, along with timber decking to amplify the natural connection to the site.

An industrial floating staircase leads to the first-floor loft that is open and overlooks the downstairs area, assisted with the quality glass balustrade. Automotive loft-style windows on the first floor capture the modern ethos of industrial living whilst also playing an energy-efficient ventilation system to the upper living area. The first floor is fitted with a master bedroom with a walk-in robe and ensuite, a second bedroom, a rumpus room, a multi-purpose room, a powder room and a spacious balcony, enabling the owners to experience the serenity of the front garden from the first floor.

The exterior of the home is finished with Mountain Ash timber and the deep and empowering Ironstone COLORBOND® metal steel cladding. Textured exposed aggregate paving and Merbau timber decking complete the finishing touches to the home with its modern minimalist landscaped garden.

Whilst modest in scale, the design prioritises living in harmony within the context, from the simple open living spaces to the industrial material choice of finishes and the northerly aspect to achieve aesthetic perfection in design.
